10 Digits Fix Line Phone Numbers

The Telephone Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended 10 digit numbers for Fixed Land Lines so Your Fixed Land Line phone number may have 10 digits by January 2012.At present ,only mobile phone number are having 10 digit numbers and Land Line numbers have 8 digit number which is been recently reported by Business Standard.
The Country should be migrate to incorporated 10 digit numbering scheme as early as possible and all the preparations are expected to be completed by September 2011 and actual migration to be completed in December 2011.the Regulators has recommended migration for the 11 digit numbers but after receiving mix explanation from various stakeholders TRAI reported that such a migration would have several disadvantages for customers as well as operators.
It is said that fixed 10 digit numbering system for both land line and mobile phones would make accessible sufficient and will help for the expansion of existing service and opening of new services can be potential for at least 30-40 years in India. Besides this the new numbering system would also make easy for development of number portability of new fixed lines.
This current numbering system is chosen for over 750 million connections which include 450 mobile connections. This system is expected to last till 2030 but it came under with harsh damage with mobile numbers are crossing the mark in 2009 itself. More TRAI said that number to telecom users will be exceeded by 1 million in 2014.
The regulators will also work out for the detailed incorporated numbering system with routing plans and interconnection architecture after the acceptant of recommendation of Department of Telecommunications.
