The MWC 2012 gave us a great many phones. One of the companies that released a bunch of smartphones was Sony. The company continued the Xperia series by releasing the Xperia P, Xperia U, etc. In today’s article, we are comparing the Xperia P with one of the best phones of last year – Apple iPhone 4S.
Size & Design:
The Xperia P measures 122 mm lengthwise, 59.5 mm breadthwise and 10.5 mm in thickness. It weighs around 120 g. The iPhone 4S is thinner at 9.3 mm and has a footprint of 115.2 * 58.6 mm. The phone weighs around 140 g. The Xperia P features a LED backlit LCD display of 4 inch with a resolution of 540 * 960 pixels and a sharpness of 275 ppi. The iPhone 4S owns a LED backlit IPS TFT touchscreen measuring 3.5 inch with a resolution of 640 * 960 pixels and a sharpness of 330 ppi. The 4S is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass technology and has an oleophobic coating. The Xperia P has scratch resistant glass that is powered by Sony WhiteMagic technology and Sony Mobile BRAVIA engine. The WhiteMagic technology gives a white backlight to the Xperia P which makes the screen visible in all situations.
The Xperia P runs on Android platform, the version being v2.3 (Gingerbread). The iPhone 4S obviously runs on iOS 5, which is upgradable to iOS 5.1. The iOS is the most advanced mobile operating system and has uber cool features. The phones are driven by dual core processors clocked at 1 GHz.
The 4S is available in three models – 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB of internal space. It also has 512 MB RAM. The iPhone like any other Apple product does not possess a card slot. The Xperia P has 16 GB internal space and 1 GB RAM. It too does not possess a card slot.
The phones possess 8 MP shooters with features such as LED flash, geo tagging, touch focus, face detection, etc. The Xperia P camera also has the additional 3D sweep panorama facility. The phones have video recording feature at a quality of 1080p and a frame rate of 30 fps. Both phones possess a VGA as secondary camera. The 4S can also shoot 480p video via its front camera.
The 4S is a GSM as well as CDMA phone. It can intelligently switch between the two depending on signal reception. The Xperia P is a GSM phone. Both have EDGE and GPRS features. The HSDPA speed in both phones is 14.4 Mbps. Wi-Fi 802.11, hotspot facility, etc. enable wireless network. Local area connectivity is enabled via Bluetooth and micro USB. The Xperia P has a NFC chip.
The Xperia P is fuelled by a Li-Ion battery rated at 1305 mAh. The 4S has a Li-Po battery with a power rating of 1432 mAh. Though the Xperia P has more than twice the stand by time than the 4S, the iPhone 4S offers much longer talk time than the Xperia P.
The 4S is available at $ 777 while the Xperia P is priced at $ 591.
The Xperia P is a great phone with some pretty cool features. But the smartphone cannot outdo the classiness and style of the Apple iPhone 4S.
