As part of the Robert Half CIO Masters Series, a senior IT executive from one of the world’s most influential technology companies talks about the impact of what he does on today’s business model.

“Technology is actually crucial to the success of every business,” says Alan Noble, “it’s just that some businesses don’t realise it yet.” These are important words for those pursuing technology jobs or technology careers.

As the Engineering Director in Australia & New Zealand for Google, Noble knows his stuff. Google Inc. is the American multinational corporation invested in internet search, cloud computing, advertising technologies and search engines. Not to mention the numerous internet-based services and products it develops.

Noble has lived and worked in Australia, Japan and the United States for multinationals and startups alike. He has founded or co-founded internet software companies and served as CTO of network performance software developer Foursticks. In 2005 he founded NWAN Optimisation solutions company NetPriva, itself acquired by Expand Networks in 2007—the same year Noble joined Google.

“Coming from a technology company like Google,” he says with no small amount of wonder, “it’s actually hard to get my head around the concept of technology in a support role because it’s so intrinsic to what we do.”

“But I’ll set that aside. There are tremendous opportunities for businesses today to focus on what’s important to their business. The technology should be the technology that really enables the business to differentiate itself and succeed. That’s very, very exciting.”

And Noble cautions that now is the time for business to focus on this, as the rate of change is accelerating dramatically and will create a huge challenge for the CIOs of the future. “Interesting statistic,” he says. “in 2009 the amount of digital information finally reached eight hundred exabytes. That’s eight hundred, followed by eighteen zeroes. But within a couple of years it’ll be almost a zettabyte, which is another three zeroes. How do you manage information flow? Fortunately, technology can play a huge role there.”

Inevitably, Noble believes, CIOs will migrate to the CEO’s office. “Our CEO is an engineer,” he points out proudly, referring to Google’s Eric Schmidt. “It’s probably a minority of companies like that today. I think you’ll see more of that in companies where either the technology is the lifeblood of the business or CIOs and CTOs themselves become more generalist, spending more of their careers outside of just IT.”

The corporate chain of command is mutating as well. “Google has a very large matrix organisation,” Noble explains. “So we do have the traditional VPs reporting in to the CEO. We have multiple VPs in engineering, we’re probably unusual in that there’s not a single engineering VP, there’s four VPs at last count. The CIO reports in to one of those senior VPs, so it’s a very senior position close to the top.”

“I think the reason we have more engineering VPs than other companies is because of the importance of technology to Google. I mean, at the end of the day we are a technology company first and foremost. And Google uses a lot of technology.”

As young IT professionals approach technology recruitment, it is imperative they understand the importance of technology to modern business.

The demand for high definition LCD and plasma TV’s has grown significantly in the last few years. As well as using them for movies and entertainment in one’s home, these TV’s are also being used in offices and other business events for corporate purposes. Along with different tastes, you can find high definition screens in a variety of sizes, shapes and designs to suit any individual or business – making it as much a fashion statement as just being there for entertainment.

You can even see high definition TVs in restaurants, clubs, fast food restaurants and hotels. It is not an exaggeration to say that these TVs have now become a status symbol and it is yet another reason behind their rising demand.

In the early days LCD TVs were only available from a few companies such as Sony, LG, Philips and Samsung; and due low supply and high manufacturing costs, prices were high as well. Now, however, the situation has totally changed as more companies have entered into the market. Combined with ever advancing technology, lower manufacturing costs and more competition, cheap LCD TVs and plasmas are quickly replacing old tube TVs.

While they look complex, most LCD and plasma TV’s work much like any other TV, and installation is no different. If anything, the process is faster thanks to more processing power in today’s TV’s. If you get stuck, however, you can always refer to instruction manuals that come with your screen and installing a TV should soon become as easy a walk in the park.

Wall-mounting your TV can be a little trickier and it is advised that you get a professional. While it really is a question of screwing the mount to the wall and then attaching your TV to it, there are things that need to be taken into account. Firstly, you’ll want to make sure the wall you’re mounting it on to is strong enough to support the weight of your TV. Secondly, you’ll want to be sure you’re not drilling into any electrical wires or pipes inside the wall; and thirdly, you want to be sure you don’t drop your TV when lifting it up onto the wall-mount.

Once installation is done, all you need to do is, sit back and enjoy.

Backlight LCD television Generally called as LED TV’s which uses LED backlighting instead of using florescent lights which is normally used in LCD televisions.

LED’s come in two forms, the first is dynamic red led which are positioned behind the panel or with the edge of led panels and other is EDGE LED’s which is positioned around the rim of the screen.

LED’s generally provide several general benefits over typical CFL TV’s especially higher brightness compared to CFL TV’s there is also color benefits in this TV’s.

However this TV’s provide better clarity of the picture and takes low power consumptions are also possible. Moreover you don’t have to experience the motion blur because these televisions have the automatic motion blur feature which provides soft motion blur picture quality.

Several companies have launched the LED TV’s like Samsung, Panasonic, and LG etc.in the market long time back.

Different Model’s are there in Samsung LED’s like

Samsung 6000 series: These televisions are categorized in entry level of Samsung led TV’s. These models have 120 MHz refresh which generate good quality images with less blur so that we can experience the good picture quality. With Samsung 6000 series we can view our images from the camera and can watch the video from the camcorders.

Samsung 7000 series: Samsung 7000 has extra features than series 6000. These televisions have extra USB input which can be useful to connect the internet without running any cables. These models also have web capabilities by which all the widgets can be accessed while watching TV itself.

Samsung 8000 series: these televisions have simple glass ascent that goes over frames. Samsungs has doubled its refresh rate to 240 MHz by which we can see the smoother and crisp action.

LED’s are performing well in the electronic market so when you think to buy a TV think about buying LED once because this should mean that your are buying a TV that will fulfill all your needs without any complaints.

Asus RT-N16 is a great product and it’s a fun router for networking enthusiast who wants to use their computer with third-party. It has an open source firmware such as Tomato and DD-WRT. However users have to wait till Asus provides a more stable version of the firmware.

Like motherboards, Asus is also known for making other hardware’s. You can see lot of third party operating system which is called Firmware on the RT-N16. It is equipped with over lockable 480MHz CPU and 128MB of RAM. The router has performed great when it is tested by the experts when it was running DD-WRT, which is one of the most popular LINUX based open source router firmware options.

If you don’t mind if the third party uses this firmware then RT-N16 which costs just around 100$ is the best choice as it offers a lot more features than other routers in the same price range.

The Asus RT-N16 has the traditional square router design having three removable antennae sticking up from back. The router is just about 30% larger than most similarly other routers.

The web-interface which can be used by pointing an access to the browser’s router IP address has the good look and can feel good too and it seems to be well thought out. For example when you change the setting then it displays a message that shows the percentage of the process from the beginning to the end. This is the best feature it has because most of the other routers leave you hanging and you can only know the process, which is done when the interface becomes responsive again.

This product has multifunction wireless router that has impressive specs including gigabit Ethernet and two USB ports. It also performs well and works great with third party and has open source firmware. But ASUS RT-N16 is bulky and does not support dual-band communication. Also the router is buggy and has unstable wireless signal.
