Iphone has easily been the hottest topic in the gadget world. Iphone is a multifunctional GSM smart phone designed by Apple Inc. The basic idea was given in 2003, on the basis that the PDA phones are not giving enough performance. The production of the Iphone was announced in January 2009. The Iphone was shown at WWDC in 2008. From that day Iphone has created a chaos rather a tough competition for other PDAs in the market. This made Iphone one of the hottest, no like the hottest gadget of 2008.
Apple has given Iphone a lot of features to be amazed from. First of all is the touch screen. It is a 9cm LCD screen which is fixed with scratch resistant glass on top to make the gadget look as sleek as hell. It is designed for single finger input or multi finger inputs when the user is typing or browsing the internet. It also features an anti finger print oleo phobic coating which prevents permanent marks from remaining on the screen. There are three sensors on the screens which help in the operational processes. The first is the touchscreen sensor which is listed above. The second is the proximity sensor which by a technology turns the touch screen off during phone calls to exclude unwanted inputs from the ears or the head. A 3 axis accelerometer has also been included to enable motion sensing in the Iphone. This also rotates the screen according to the way the person is holding the phone. It also is used in third-party applications mostly in games.
Iphone features two different speakerphones which are used for media playback and also for hands free purposes. Sockets have also been included for the connection of earphones or headphones. Headsets by apple also include playback controls on them which have been released for the Iphone 3GS. Built in Blue Tooth 2.0 enables the use of wireless headsets or ear phones too.
The battery of Iphone is an internal rechargeable battery. It can be charged by USB cable as that of an IPOD. Apple has stated that the battery can withstand 300 hours of standby mode, 10 hours of video playback, and 9 hours of continuous web browsing, 12 hours of talk time and 30 hours of music playback. Users can return the Iphone to an Apple care centre if there is a fault with the battery under warranty time. This is because the battery of Iphone can’t be replaced by the user.
Storage in Iphone comes with an optional internal storage of 16 Gb or 32 Gb .Iphone doesn’t supports any external flash card or storage from the SIM card. SIM card is inserted via a tray on the top of the phone.
The OS installed in Iphone is known as the Iphone OS. It is based on the Darwin operating system and the MAC OS X. Core animation from MAC OS v10.5 is also featured in the Iphone .A graphic orientated menu is featured in the Iphone. It has conferencing, call merging, call holding, caller ID and other features in communication. It also contains voice control which enables the control of phone using voice commands. Internet in Iphone can be accessed by Wi-Fi or a Mobile Broadband or GSM or EDGE network. The usual download limit is 1.4 Mbps in the US. The default browser for Iphone is the safari web browser.
As the Iphone features no hardware keyboard in it an on screen QWERTY based keyboard is present for text input. Automatic spell checking and correction is also present along with a dynamic dictionary. A virtual magnifying glass is also present for the clarification of words.
After the details one would automatically fall for the Iphone . With so many features and pros one can’t withstand the lure of the Iphone. So for the Iphone I would say : “Go Get’em Tiger!”
