Save Your Notebook and Desktop
We are facing difficult times ahead. The world is a frenzy of unrest; with unruly happenings all around us, we can never be sure what would hit us next. In times like these, intellectual property rights are hardly a reason to cry out loud since serious crackers roam all over the internet now to dig deep into your data.
Even if it isn’t the internet, we are all aware of the data thefts through wireless devices when working public areas. What to do now? You may ask. Well, it’s quite simple. Get your notebook security precautions upgraded. Who would ever want foreign hands all over their notebooks? (This might sound really cheesy but seriously folks would ya?)
So here are the top five tips to keep that digital beauty well away from people who want to snatch it away!
- Security Locks: A Kensington lock, where you could attach your notebook to something solid via a cable, is one sure way to drop the chances of someone simply picking it up and running away (Oh God no!)
- Choose your abode well: Try working with your notebook in as less shady areas as you can. In a reasonable public place which isn’t exactly brimming with people all around you, preferably quiet (you did want to work, right?), and a decent surrounding (No offence, but the Hoods at midnight don’t do it for me and my lil lappy!)
- Bluetooth or no Bluetooth: try keeping your Bluetooth devices turned off unless you need to use them. If it doesn’t come in-built with your notebook, keep the device unattached. This would not only drop the chances of malware settling its unwelcome self into your notebook without your consent, it would also reduce ways in which crackers can access your precious darling (Yes, I love my notebook ladies and gentleman. It is a ray of hope in my dark geeky life)
- Anti-phishing softwares: Face it guys, if you’re connected to the internet, spy ware of all kind Will see your way. It is then your wisdom to keep it off the harm by making sure you have good, reliable anti-phishing software installed and updated regularly.
- ANTI-VIRUS: Remember the time when flu last hit you and your mum going all gaga over her baby, getting you orange juices and that special treatment? (For some of us, it may date back to decades). You’d be going to all lengths if your notebook was hit by a virus. Why go through all that trouble when you could instead, pay heed to “prevention is the best medicine” by getting yourself a renowned anti-virus. It is easy to get yourself illegal copies of antiviruses or simply living off the evaluation periods. Yet, it may not be the be the best practice for your notebook. Invest in a good, ORIGINAL antivirus once and you’ll see how easy it makes your life!
We all know the virtues of good money and let’s are honest, what’s a little money, a little effort in saving your notebook, if it means not having to get a new one altogether? (Not all of us are born rich, ya know!) So gentlemen and ladies, lets pledge to treat that faithful gadget of ours better.
